Friday 14th June (pm) - AQA/Edexcel/OCR/ - Physics Paper 2 and Combined Science

Things parents should know about this exam;

  • The format: Paper 2 is a written exam lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes with a total of 100 marks for AQA. The exam is 1 hour and 15 minutes for Combined Science. It is available in both Foundation and Higher Tier. This paper contributes 50% to the overall GCSE grade for those taking GCSE Physics.

  • The content: The topics covered in Paper 2 are Forces, Waves, Magnetism and electromagnetism for AQA. Space is only for GCSE physics. Additionally, questions may draw on an understanding of energy changes and transfers due to heating, mechanical and electrical work, and the concept of energy conservation from the Energy and Electricity topics. The paper will feature a variety of question types, including multiple choice, structured questions, closed short answer questions, and open response questions.

  • Revision resources: To prepare effectively for Paper 2, students can utilise our GCSE science guide that can help identify areas that require more focus during revision. Resources for required practical’s (see the video) are also available to aid in understanding practical aspects of the subject. Past paper questions can provide valuable practice and help students familiarise themselves with the exam format and question styles.

Some other exams taking place this week include Geography Paper 3, Music, Design and Technology, Polish and Food Preparation and Nutrition
