Key Exam Dates 7th-13th June
Listing every exam for every exam board in one newsletter is a bit too much, so we’ve focused on the major exams happening this week and provided links to the official timetables for you to check other dates.
Your child should have an exam timetable or entry sheet that you can both use to stay on top of their schedule. Don’t forget to confirm their exam board, as not all boards test the same subjects on the same days.
The GCSE Biology Exam AQA and Edexcel is on the 7th but we covered that last week so feel free to check out that newsletter if you need details.
Monday, 10 June (am) - AQA/Edexcel/OCR - Maths Paper 3 - foundation and higher
Things parents should know about this exam:
The format: The GCSE Maths Paper 3 exam is a calculator-allowed paper. It consists of a written exam that lasts for 1 hour and 30 minutes and is worth 80 marks. This paper accounts for 33⅓% of the total GCSE Mathematics assessment. The exam features a mix of question styles, ranging from short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems. The mathematical demand of the questions increases as students progress through the paper.
The content: The GCSE Maths Paper 3 exam can assess content from any part of the mathematics specification. This means that students need to be prepared for questions covering a wide range of mathematical topics and concepts. Mathematical skills tested include problem-solving, reasoning, and the application of mathematical knowledge.
Revision resources: There are numerous revision resources available to help students prepare for the GCSE Maths Paper 3 exam. These include textbooks, revision guides, websites, and online courses mentioned in our previous newsletters.
Tuesday, 11 June (am) - AQA/Edexcel/OCR - Chemistry - foundation and higher
Things parents should know about this exam:
The format: The GCSE Chemistry Paper 2 exam is available in both Foundation and Higher Tiers. It is a written exam that lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes for Combined Science. For Separate Science it is worth 100 marks, constituting 50% of the total GCSE Chemistry assessment. The exam includes a variety of question types, such as multiple choice, structured questions, closed short answer questions, and open response questions.
The content: The GCSE Chemistry Paper 2 exam covers topics 6–10, which include The Rate and Extent of Chemical Change, Organic Chemistry, Chemical Analysis, Chemistry of the Atmosphere, and Using Resources. Students need to be well-versed in these areas, as questions will test their understanding and ability to apply their knowledge to different scenarios.
Revision resources: There are various revision resources available to help students prepare for the GCSE Chemistry Paper 2 exam. These include textbooks, revision guides, websites, and online courses all mentioned in our previous newsletters. Understanding key concepts and practicing problem-solving skills are crucial for success in this exam.
Some other exams taking place this week include Spanish writing, History Paper 3, Polish listening and reading.
